The future is looking bright for our increasingly successful Ladies section. Fiona Carter and Joanna Richmond, who are both sixth form students, have joined the club and are already making their mark at the mix ins. In addition, the club's mission to make tennis available to all ages and all standards is being fulfilled with the additon to the membership of two fine young players, Pav and Charlie. Both have a good level of natural ability, speed around the court and a keenness to learn. It won't be long before they are challenging the more established adults.

We also want LOTS of club photos, especially of the winning ladies teams, the social events (on and off court), the men's team too even without trophies(!) and we'll also be looking for sponsorship to help fund the site and the general running of the tennis club.

Dana is studying A levels at Comberton Village College while her family is back in Germany. She has a mean forehand, is quick around the court and always plays with a smile on her face!

Saturday 10 Dec Mix In - weather update

I have checked the courts and at 8am they were quite icy and too dangerous to play on so I suggest the mix in is called off, however, any players wishing to arrange some play amongst themselves later in the day when the frost has gone can log in to the members area and post a new topic on the forum which other players can respond to.

Too Icy to Play at 8.30 so Mix In is OFF, However feel free to contact other members of the club by adding a Topic in the Forum inviting folk to play later if the conditions improve (you will need to log in). Last week a couple of us had a really good match in the winter sunshine, so if you fancy a run around instead of going Christmas shopping put it on the Forum.

Saturday Mix In 4th Feb weather update

Lookout for a weather update just after 7.30am on Saturday morning. Just because it's cold the courts might be playable. Two weeks ago it was minus 6C but there was no frost on the court so it was completely playable and the 10 of us who turned out had a great session in beautiful conditions. If the courts are a bit slippery but the sun is out then we may delay the start time.

It is one of those lovely cold sunny winter mornings but the courts ARE TOTALLY playable. I hope to see you shortly after 8.30am. Hats advised for the follicly challenged. Two weeks ago it was colder but we still had a good session.

Welcome to Jo and Mark from Girton who have just joined the club. Although technically they joined today (4th Feb) they've already demonstrated they like their tennis tough by turning out two weeks ago when the temperature was on minus 6C. Today when the starting temperature was MINUS 8 C they were back for more!

Wednesday 8th Feb MIX IN IS OFF

No prizes for guessing why. The courts are still covered with snow and there's little prospect of a thaw today and temperatures are predicted to plummet again tonight. Temperature is not a problem for some of us if it isn't icy, which sadly it will be tonight.

Watch this space if Saturday's weather looks doubtful too.

Saturday 11th February MIX IN SNOWED OFF

Have a nice lie in on Saturday morning because there's no chance of tennis. It's snowy and freezing and for once I won't be fighting off the duvet to check the court conditions at 7.30am.

TennisClub AGM Thurs 15th March

We are holding the Club AGM on Thursday 15th March at the Hoops Barton 7-30 pm for 8-00 pm start.

A good chance to catch up with otyher members you haven't seen for a while and look forward to the summer ahead.

Please try and attend to have you chance to comment on the Clubs activitites and future.

Everyone is welcome and we will try to keep the formalities to a minimum allowing time for questions and suggestion from the membership.

Well done to Mark and Jo for braving the weather and turning out this morning, but in the end the rain which kept me in my car in the car park finally beat them too. If the weather brightens up, as it if forecast to do, and folk fancy playing later then log into the Members Area of this site and go to the forum where some members who might want to play have publicised their telephone numbers. Alternatively, post a note on the Forum - "Anyone For Tennis later today" and see if you get replies.

Singles Box League NOW CLOSED FOR ENTRANTS

Anyone for competitive singles?

After last year’s success, Comberton Tennis Club is again running a summer singles box league. Each round of the box league lasts six weeks during which time each player plays all the other participants in the league (usually about four matches). Box league matches comprise two sets, and the winner of the league is the player with the highest number of games at the end of the round.

The first box league of the summer will run from 14th April to 26th May 2012 and is free to club members.

Jane will draw up the league and email contact details and full rules before the start date.

Bank Holiday Invitation Tournament

Date: Monday 7th May 2012

Time: 2pm prompt

Format : Mixed Doubles Round Robin

Refreshments: Bring Your Own Booze/Bottle plus bring and share finger food snacks

Entry fee £5 per person [prizes to be won!]

Max 24 entrants but supporters welcome

Each club member entrant is encouraged to bring a non-club member for a partner

To avoid disappointment reply ASAP but the closing date will be noon on Thursday 3rd May

Wimbledon Ticket Draw Wed. 18th April 8pm

The Draw for this years Wimbledon Tickets will take place during the Club "Mix-In" session on Wednesday 18th April at 8 pm.

Attendance on Wednesdays has been good during the Winter, but if you haven't already dusted off your racquet, now's a good chance to get along and start playing.
Session starts at 6-30 pm and runs through to 8-30.

Mix In Ball Money Fund

To ensure the Wednesday and Saturday Mix In sessions have a supply of good quality, new or nearly new balls, members attending the sessions are invited to contribute £1 into the fund. For those who wonder how the money gets spent we collected £273.04 and spent £233.43 on 66 Tubes of balls. The average cost per tube of 4 balls was £3.53 and we have £39.61 carried over into the new year which started on the 1st April 2012.

It is intended to extend this to the Men's Match Play sessions which follow the Mix Ins.

Men's Match Play Sessions

Early days but these sessions which take place after the general Mix Ins on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings have got off to a good start. For details click on the About the Club page and then onto the Regular Club Sessions link for details.

It has been suggested that we send out a round robin email for those intending to come along - if someone wants to start this off to see how it goes feel free. (The Ladies Sunday Sessions are using a different method to see who wants to attend which the Men could try if it works for the Ladies).

Men looking to attend the Match Play Sessions which are for team standard players are invited to contribute £1 per session to the ball fund to ensure good quality balls.

Meet the Coaches Wednesday 11th April

Hamid and Dan, from Over and In, will come to the Club session on Wednesday 11th April at 7pm.

This will give them a chance to meet some of the members and also for us to have a meeting and try to agree a coaching programme.

I suggest we let them meet members first and play some tennis, I believe some have expressed an interest in coaching. We will then have our discussions later.

Ladies Sunday Sessions

Ladies Sunday Sessions are held on

Sundays from 4pm until 6pm - all ladies are welcome to play tennis and have some tea!

We are trialling a system so ladies can let others know if they are planning to attend without the need for endless round robin emails.PLEASE CLICK HERE and let the others know if you're planning to attend and even bring some cake.

Bank Holiday Mixed Doubles is ON

It's just before midday on the 7th May and the light rain that was forecast to fall from 11am this morning has not arrived. So the tournament goes ahead in near perfect condtions. Don't forget to bring your fiver, your food and drink and maybe something to sit on.

PS Even if it does start to spit it shouldn't ruin what promises to be a fun afternoon.

Bank Holiday Tennis is OFF

Despite all our optimism, the rain has come to stay for a few hours right at the time planned for our tournament.

Therefore, with much regret, it has been decided to cancel.

Provided it stops raining we are intending to still play some Tennis at 5pm, so come along if you want to.
